On the edge of the
Gironde Estuary

The Gironde estuary or Gironde is an estuary in south-western France whose waters flow through two departments: Gironde (with Blayais on the right bank and Médoc on the left bank) and Charente-Maritime (with Haute-Saintonge and Royannais, on the right bank), both in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region.

The Gironde is the shared estuary of two rivers: the Garonne and the Dordogne1 , which join their course at the bec d’Ambès. It gave its name to the department of Gironde.
